Are you a student or a member of the ULB university community?

No need to register: your student/staff member card is your reader's card!

Why register?

  • To visit the ULB libraries
  • Borrow documents
  • Access certain electronic resources (journals, etc.) from the libraries' public computers. You cannot therefore consult this documentation from outside of the University.

How do I register?

  • Go to the S&SAME service of your chosen library
  • Bring your identity card or passport
  • If applicable, you will be asked to show a document certifying that you belong to your institution (for the current year)
  • You must be at least 18 years old to register
  • To activate your reader account and obtain internet access at the libraries as well as Cible+, follow the detailed procedure.

Registration validity period

  • 1 year following the registration date for persons external to the ULB university community (except for external students, see below)
  • It expires on 31 October every year for students external to ULB

Cost

  • €12.50 for students at other universities or higher education institutions in Belgium and abroad (on presentation of their student card)
  • €25.00 for external visitors
  • €125.00 for businesses

  • An access card valid for one week is also available at a price of €2.50

Priority access to workspaces

University community members have priority access to the workspaces, which are accessible to them via a workspace reservation system. No external readers can be guaranteed a space - even if it is free.

Access restrictions during exam periods

In order to guarantee a workspace for students and University researchers, the ULB Libraries limit access to some of their services during exam preparation times and exam periods.

During these periods:
  • Students from outside of ULB (higher education colleges, other universities…) cannot use the libraries as places to work and study.
  • However, they can go to the libraries to borrow and return books
  • Frequent inspections will guarantee that this measure is applied

Institutions entitled to free registration

Higher education

VUB students are entitled to free registration.
You can find a list of the higher education institutions of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation that are entitled to free registration by consulting the ARES website.

Free access is guaranteed on presentation of a valid student card, a valid teaching or staff card or a certificate of membership.

Registration as an external reader is nonetheless still compulsory. It should also be noted that registrants may be asked to cover the cost of manufacturing the ULB library access card (reader's card).
